Turkmenistan is taking significant strides toward a greener economy, with a major focus on developing hydrogen energy. In response to global climate challenges, the country is implementing a roadmap for low-carbon development, prioritizing the use of renewable energy sources. At the recent COP28 conference, Turkmenistan committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 20% by 2030 and achieving zero emissions growth by the same year.
Key initiatives include projects for producing hydrogen from natural gas and introducing renewable energy technologies. Supported by national strategies and the “Law on Renewable Energy Sources,” these initiatives aim to establish a regulatory and financial framework that promotes collaboration between the state, energy producers, and consumers.
Hydrogen energy, especially “green” hydrogen produced through electrolysis, is highlighted as a promising sector. As global demand for hydrogen grows, Turkmenistan’s natural gas reserves provide a strong foundation for scalable hydrogen production. The country’s ongoing development of hydrogen technologies, including storage and transportation infrastructure, sets the stage for a sustainable economic transformation.
